Common Questions
Q:  How do I sign up for Choir?
A:  If you are an incoming 9th grade student, the most simple way of signing up is to sign up for choir on your AHS high school registration form in January.  No audition is necessary!  If you are in 10th-12th grade, you have the option of signing up for the Varsity Choir or participating in a choir audition to become a member of one of the Jr./Sr. only choirs.  

Q:  What if I didn't sign up on my registration form or have a friend who is newly interested?
A:  If you've decided to add choir after turning in your AHS registration form, just contact one of the AHS counselors or one of the high school choir teachers - it's not too late!  In some cases, we can even add a student during the first week of school.

Q:  I want to focus on my academics... do I have to take study hall at AHS?
A:  No!  Not taking a study hall actually frees up more time in your schedule to take electives, such as choir.  Most importantly, choir earns a fine arts credit, points towards your GPA, and possibly even an extracurricular letter in choir.  Study hall earns zero credit, which means it also doesn't help out your GPA.  GPA might not seems like it matters right now, but you'll be "singing a different tune" in 11th and 12th grade.

Q:  Can I take AP classes, AVID, play in band/orchestra, be an athlete, and join other school groups while in choir?
A:  We encourage it!  AHS choir students are widely involved in high school activities and academics.  Not only do team captains, instrumentalists, and student body leaders find time to be involved, many would say that it actually helps them do better in these areas.  Staying busy is a great way to "do" high school well, but only if you invest yourself in activities you are genuinely interested in.  If singing is something you like to do, then you need to allow yourself to continue!
