
Adam Baus is thrilled to play the piano at the Choral Palace that is the Armstrong HS Music Department and immensely enjoys the spirit of the Armstrong students. Graduating with a Bachelor of Music from Drake University, he is a new resident of St. Paul, after being an active pianist in Milwaukee, WI, for the past 13 years. He recently music directed and conducted "Urinetown" at Macalester College, "Annie" at Susan B. Anthony Middle School, and will be music directing "Candide" for Third Avenue Playhouse in Door County, WI, this summer. Adam was one of 5 composers for the Composer-Librettist Studio with Nautilus Music (St. Paul), and participated in their Wesley Balk Opera Institute. He is already being pulled in new creative directions and is excited to pursue new challenges in the Twin Cities Theater and Arts scene. In his spare time, Adam sight reads Bach, enjoys listening to podcasts while cooking, and runs marathons.

Adam Reinwald

Adam Reinwald, newly-appointed Assistant Conductor of the National Lutheran Choir, is a nationally recognized vocal chamber artist and soloist, and is in demand as a coach and clinician for developing voices.
From 1998 to 2014, Adam performed internationally and across the US with the male vocal ensemble Cantus. In artistic leadership at Cantus for more than a decade, Adam led programming for an organization that Fanfare Magazine labeled “the premiere men’s vocal ensemble in the United States”. During his tenure, Cantus was awarded the 2010 Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence from ChorusAmerica, released 17 albums on its own label, and established a unique collaborative working model for vocal chamber musicians.
Adam has performed as soloist with The Boston Pops, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, Seattle Opera, A Prairie Home Companion, and the Oregon Bach Festival. Adam has worked as a clinician across the US as well as in Europe and Cameroon, West Africa. A graduate of St. Olaf College, Adam maintains an active voice studio in the Twin Cities, focusing on developing high school voices. He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, ChorusAmerica, and Chorister’s Guild.

Nathan Bird

Nathan Bird, tenor, is a Minneapolis based performer, concert producer, and voice teacher. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Northwestern-St. Paul and a Master of Vocal Performance degree from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. As a singer in choral, musical theater, and opera settings, his performance credits have included the International Opera Theater, Cantus, Guthrie Theatre, Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, the Distinguished Concerts International New York, and the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’ holiday concert series with his annual production of A Three Tenors Christmas. Collaboration and creativity are pillars of Nathan’s career, as seen in his recordings with the guitars of The Massif Trio, his production of concerts with The NorrSound Tenors, and his recent leadership role on the board of the choral arts organization MPLS (imPulse). Nathan and his wife, pianist Naomi Bird, collaborate regularly, releasing recordings online and producing small concerts in their community. Cantori and Concert Choir Auditions
Choir auditions will take place May 5 - May 15 in the Armstrong practice rooms. Auditions are open to any current 10th & 11th grade students who are registered for choir next year. Auditions are private and held in a very friendly environment - give yourself a chance to be a member of something great! Audition packets can be picked up in the choir room or downloaded here. Packets must be turned in when you audition.

Attentions Seniors and Parents

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The plants from the Gertens fundraiser will be delivered on Monday May 5. We need at least 20 volunteers to help sort the plants and get them ready to hand out to the students. No plant knowledge necessary! Are you available for an hour (or more) on May 5, between 8 am and 5 pm? Do you want to take a break from your "every day duties" to spend a day outside, in the sun (hopefully!), doing easy work? It's fun, really! Jane Andersen

Ms. Andersen has been singing professionally and teaching private voice lessons in the Twin Cities for 15+ years. She has sung with and has been a featured soloist with The Dale Warland ?Singers, Vocal Essence, Northstar Opera, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis, and most recently The Minnesota Beethoven Festival. Jane holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin--Oshkosh. She also has done graduate work at Rutgers University in Early Music Performance Practice. Starting her musical studies as an instrumentalist (saxophone, piano and cello), she brings an additional insight to her teaching. Ms. Andersen is still an active performer and continues to study herself. She lists John DeHahn, Mary Kay Schmidt (locally) and Signore Rita Patane (Milano, Italia) as her current teachers.

Dale Kruse, tenor, resides in Hopkins and is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance student at the University of Minnesota. He holds degrees from Luther
College (B.A.) and Drake University (M.M.). Previously, he taught choral music at Armstrong High School and Wayzata High School and served on the voice faculty of
Gustavus Adolphus College. Last Fall (2011), he joined the faculty of Augsburg College to direct the Cedar Singers Men's Choir. Since 2004, he has been the Music Director for the Minnesota Opera: Project Opera education program, Summer Camp and Children's Chorus Master.
He is currently serving as President of the Minnesota NATS Chapter. A frequent performer in the Twin Cities, he has sung with the Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Prairie Home Companion, and Lyra Concert among others. With students, he has travelled twice to England, Scotland (American High School Theatre Festival) and Wales with Music Theater and Opera productions.
